If a spam/scam email makes it though the spam filter of your email provider you can help to protect those that don't recognize spam when they see it. Forward the message to the comping they are posing as by using the spoof address for that company.
For example I got a fake account invoice from Amazon. So instead of opening it I hit forward and put spoof@amazon.com as the address. Amazon will investigate the message and take action against the site to bring it down and prevent those that fall for the spam from losing to the scammers.
This works for several other companies that I know of specifically from using them:
EBay
PayPal
Apple
